Protection planning

Protect the plan before a disruption tests it.

Protection begins with understanding the people, responsibilities, assets, and objectives already connected to your financial life—not with a product.

A connected view

Understand what you have before asking what you need.

MIB considers protection as part of a broader conversation around Income, Protection, Taxes, and Legacy. We look at what could disrupt the financial plan, what protection already exists, and where a potential gap may deserve a closer review.

A protection review can bring the full picture into view.

People and responsibilities

Family income, spouses, children, other dependents, mortgages, debts, final expenses, and business obligations when applicable.

Coverage in place

Existing life-insurance policies and employer-provided coverage, including the benefits, costs, features, and role each may already serve.

The larger strategy

Retirement and accumulation objectives, liquidity needs, estate and legacy intentions, and the possible effect of death or qualifying health events.

The MIB approach

Keep. Improve. Replace.

A new policy is not automatically a better answer. Sometimes the appropriate recommendation is to keep existing coverage as it is.

Keep

What current protection is working well and deserves to remain part of the plan?

Improve

Where could clearer coordination, updated information, or a closer review strengthen the overall picture?

Replace

What, if anything, may no longer fit the direction, responsibilities, or objectives you have today?

Life insurance in context

Structure follows the need.

Term life insurance

Term coverage may be appropriate for temporary or defined protection needs, such as income replacement, a mortgage, family responsibilities, or business obligations during a specific period.

Permanent life insurance

Permanent life insurance, including Indexed Universal Life when appropriate, may be evaluated for longer-term protection needs and may include policy cash-value features depending on the policy and carrier.

An individualized comparison

The appropriate structure depends on needs, budget, time horizon, objectives, existing coverage, and the broader financial picture. No single policy type is right for every situation.

Living benefits

Protection is not limited to what happens at death.

When available and appropriate, a life-insurance policy may include living-benefit riders or accelerated death-benefit provisions that may provide access to a portion of the death benefit following qualifying chronic illness, critical illness, terminal illness, or other conditions defined in the policy.

Eligibility, qualifying events, definitions, limitations, charges, and benefit amounts vary by policy and are governed by the insurance contract and carrier materials.

Protection, retirement, and legacy

A disruption can affect more than one goal.

An unexpected health event, loss of income, premature death, or other financial shock may force a household to draw on assets intended for retirement or legacy purposes. Protection strategies may be evaluated for the role they could play in supporting the broader plan when appropriate.

MIB provides financial education and insurance strategy coordination. Estate planning and legal advice are provided by qualified legal professionals.

A considered first conversation
